Frequently asked questions about Hearthstone
Did Hearthstone esports get cut?
Yes, a lot. Blizzard ended Grandmasters, its top league, after 2022, and from 2023 cut the rest of the program down to a few smaller events. It's a big drop from Hearthstone esports' peak in the late 2010s, and fans have been vocal about it.
What format do Hearthstone tournaments use?
Conquest is the standard: each player brings several decks (usually three or four), and a deck that wins a game can't be used again in that match. You have to win with every deck, so a wide deck lineup beats one strong deck. That's why deck reveals before a match matter so much to viewers.
Who are the long-time Hearthstone casters worth knowing?
Frodan (Nathan Zamora) and Old Guardian have been the most consistent English voices in Hearthstone esports for years, both known for deep deck-building knowledge, not just play-by-play energy. Watching either of them cast a Conquest series is the fastest way to learn competitive deck-building.
Is Hearthstone still worth watching competitively?
If you already enjoy the game, yes: the skill in deck-building and play order at the top level is real and interesting. If you're coming in expecting the size of CS2 or LoL esports, lower your expectations. The circuit is a fraction of what it was at its 2018–2019 peak, with far fewer big events each year.
