FURIA outlast Nemiga in Bucharest for a second trophy in two weeks

FURIA edged Nemiga 3-2 on Saturday, Oct 31, to win PGL Masters Bucharest. It was their second straight title, less than two weeks after the Thunderpick World Championship.

The final

Nemiga took Ancient to open the final, so FURIA used Dust2 and Cache to climb back to one map from the title.

On Mirage, Nemiga led after the second-half pistol. YEKINDAR led FURIA back level, but Nemiga won the last round of regulation a player down, and that round forced a fifth map.

FURIA pulled away on Nuke, the leftover map, after the sides switched.

The road to the final

FURIA had scraped into the playoffs in last place, after a loss to Spirit on Monday. On Friday they took down MOUZ, fourth in the Valve Regional Standings published on Oct 5, to reach the final.

YEKINDAR’s first MVP

HLTV named Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis the event MVP after a 1.56 rating across the five maps, the first MVP of his career.

On Ancient, the map FURIA lost, he was the only FURIA player who held up. He told James Banks, for HLTV:

You know the term, life tournament? Don’t expect this every tournament.
