Selangor Red Giants defeated Team Rey 4-3 on Sunday, Nov 1, in the MPL Malaysia Season 18 final at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara. Utusan called it their sixth title in a row, a run from Season 13.

Seven games

The two sides traded games, Selangor Red Giants on the odd numbers and Team Rey on the even ones. Team Rey’s win in game six forced a decider, and Selangor Red Giants dominated that last game.

A rematch two days later

On Thursday, Selangor Red Giants won the upper bracket semifinal against Bigetron MY by VIT.

On Friday, Oct 30, they won the upper bracket final 3-0 over Team Rey. Team Rey then beat Team Vamos in the lower bracket final on Saturday, which earned them the rematch.

Both finalists had already qualified for the M8 World Championship in Istanbul, so Sunday decided only the title.

The coach’s view

Kramm was the grand final MVP. Michael Angelo “Arcadia” Bocado, Selangor Red Giants’ head coach, told Bernama:

I’m very happy because Team Rey really stepped up their game. We enjoyed the entire series as they kept fighting back in every game, making it a really exciting experience for us.

It has been a while since we experienced such an intense and enjoyable series.
