Major champions DarkZero start their title defense in Osaka with a win over TYLOO
DarkZero took the opening best-of-one of BLAST R6 Major Osaka on Clubhouse against TYLOO on Friday.
DarkZero defeated TYLOO on Friday, Nov 6, in the first match of the BLAST R6 Major Osaka. The team that won the last Major, in Salt Lake City in May, started this one in the Phase 1 play-in.
Ahead at the switch
DarkZero opened on attack and went into the switch 4-2 up. On defense they let TYLOO win only one more round, and the map was over after 42 minutes. Liquipedia lists DarkZero’s Nuers as the match MVP.
Polymarket had DarkZero at 86% before kickoff, and the price never fell below 79% while the map was played.
Champions in the play-in
DarkZero came to Osaka as the fourth seed from North America League Stage 2, and their last match before it was a 0-2 loss to M80 in the playoffs on Oct 15. That seed put them in Phase 1, an eight-team double-elimination bracket that sends four teams on. M80, Cloud9 and 100 Thieves went straight into the 16-team Swiss stage.
In Salt Lake City the same organization lifted the trophy, winning the final 3-1 against Shopify Rebellion.
TYLOO, the third seed from the CN League, drop to the lower bracket, where one more loss ends their Major. Their last match before Osaka was a 2-1 loss to All Gamers in the CN League playoffs on Oct 18, and All Gamers also play in this Phase 1 bracket.
What’s next for DarkZero
DarkZero play a best-of-three upper-bracket semifinal next, and a win there sends them to the Swiss stage.
